Hops. Locally raised, locally processed.

We established our hop yard in 2015 to serve the growing craft brewing industry in Southwest Ohio. We raise multiple varieties of hops that are available wet, as dry whole cones, and pelleted for commercial and home brewers. We process the hops in our on-farm processing facility that is licensed by the Ohio Department of Agriculture.

Enhancing Midwest Hop Productivity Using Photoperiodism: An On-Farm Research Project

In 2021, we began an on-farm research project to understand the costs and effects of a lighting system to regulate flowering  of hop plants to improve yield, quality, and profitability. The on-farm project was based on this study by University of Florida. Watch the video below to learn more about the project and key takeaways. Read the full project report online on the North Central SARE website.

WET HOPS

Freshly harvested hops that have not been dried are often used in seasonal brews to impart a fresh, full flavor. It's important to retain the freshness of wet hops, so they're often added to brews within hours of harvest.

For breweries and home brewers in Southwest Ohio, Scott Farms can offer a source for high quality, wet hops during harvest in late August.  Contact us for details!

WHOLE CONES

After harvest, hop cones are dried using low-heat, forced air in our on-farm oast house. Whole cones are then packaged in light proof bags flushed with nitrogen and stored at cool temperatures to be used for dry hopping brews.

HOP PELLETS

Scott Farms' on-farm oast house and processing facility allow us to pelletize and package our hops. The pellets are packaged in light proof bags flushed with nitrogen and stored at cool temperatures.

Pellets can be easily stored and used for a wide variety of beer styles and brewing practices.
